How To Identify Ants

Not sure how to identify which types of ants are infesting your home or property? Did you know that there are more than 700 different ant species in the United States? Figuring out which type of ants are invading your home or yard can be difficult, and sometimes impossible, without experience and knowledge of these invasive pests. Our pest experts begin by looking for ant trails. Ants typically never travel alone; they hunt and work as a colony along trails and paths that are established by crews of ants. Think of it like an ant highway. Ants have various behaviors depending on the species. Some are active only at night, while some are active during the day. Some nest in soil areas, while some prefer vegetation and trees. They each have unique patterns, which we will identify for you. Then, we will destroy their colonies, highways, and nests, keeping your family and pets safe inside and outside your home.

Facts About Ants

Infestations and invasions typically happen quickly before you even notice. Maybe your ant problem is just an annoyance, or maybe they are completely taking over your property. These pests are incredibly smart, diligent, and resilient when it comes to taking over, and they only continue to evolve.

Things to Know About Ants

  • Ants are very hard to kill.
  • Ants farm aphids.
  • Many ants are new to the United States from foreign countries.
  • Ants live in very complex colonies.
  • There are more than 12,000 types of ants across 700 different species.
  • Ants are as old as the dinosaurs.
  • The largest ants can reach 2.4 inches long.
  • There are some 10 quadrillion ants on this planet – 10,000,000,000,000,000!

The species and type of ant determine their actual lifespan or lifecycle. While some male ants live on for a few weeks and will typically die after mating, worker ants usually live for several months, building and protecting their colony or castle. Their activity can also depend on the species and climate. While some ants stay active year-round, others may go dormant in cold months or in cold areas.

Facts: These ants hold true to their name – they act crazy. Their foraging patterns appear to be uncontrolled, abnormal, and bizarre. You may even think they have a terrible vision or have had way too much caffeine! These ants do not follow your typical trail or highway like most other ants but rather move in a crazy pattern.
